First Annual Helen Pleterski Volusia County Fair
and Youth Show Food Drive

Thursday November 5th will be the First Annual Helen Pleterski Volusia County Fair and Youth Show Food Drive.

  • Donations of 2 canned goods will be exchanged for a Buy-one-Get-one gate admission ticket valid for any subsequent night at the Fair
  • Second Harvest Food Bank is planning to distribute the collections to over 50 church organizations in Volusia & Seminole Counties

Helen Pleterski was born and raised in Edgewater. Widowed at a young age with 3 daughters to raise, Helen oversaw one of the largest multi use farms in Samsula where she grew various produce for sale primarily cabbage, numerous heads of cattle for market, and a sod operation. She was the founder of Volusia Feed and Seed.

In her 78 years, Helen served on the Volusia County Fair & Youth Show Board of Directors from 1985 until her recent passing in October 2009. Her community involvement extended to the Volusia County Cattlewomen as well as the SNPJ Lodge 603 in Samsula.

The Volusia County fair Association is proud to begin this annual food drive for those locally in need in the name of Helen Pleterski. She will always remain an integral part of the annual Volusia County Fair.
